The Apple and Google Play stores have been the most popular in the world, with Android users spending $6 billion on apps last year.
The latest version of the iPhone, which launched in 2012, is also popular with smartphone users, with $6.6 billion being spent on apps in the same time period.
The Android version of Trip Planner is also in the top 10 with $5.3 billion spent.
While Apple’s app has a relatively large market share, Android users still spend the majority of their time in the Google Play store, according to research from the App Annie website.
The survey also revealed that Android users spend about half the time using the iOS app compared with Android smartphone users.
Google Play has seen its share of growth over the past few years, with the number of downloads increasing by 30 per cent year on year in the US and UK, to 6.7 billion in the first quarter of 2018.
