BIDEN, N.Y. (AP) “The Simpsons” creator Matt Grunwald is reportedly working on a new movie with actor Peter Stormare that could open in spring 2019.
It’s a move that would be a return to form for Grunstein, who famously turned the TV show into a hit animated series that was renewed for five seasons in 2008.
He has since worked on such movies as “The Hangover Part III” and “The Good Place,” which he directed, but none with the same depth and longevity as the “Simpsons.”
He also has a number of other projects in the works, including a sequel to “Gotham” and a reboot of the “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” television show.
In the past, Grunsteins films have starred “The Lego Movie” star Paul Rudd and “Gone Girl” actress Kate Winslet, who was cast in the lead role of Robin.
The film is described as a gritty tale set in a world of warring gangs.
It would have Rudd play a former gang member who goes undercover as a cop and ends up being recruited by a rival gang as part of his undercover mission.
The movie is currently being shopped around to studios and is expected to open in theaters this spring, possibly later in 2019.
Grunsten’s first big project after directing the 2009 hit “The Adventures of Tintin” is a remake of “The Princess Bride,” starring the late Heath Ledger.
It is expected that Grunston will return to the project, which he co-wrote and co-produced with his son, Josh.
“The Last Ninja” was the first movie to be made with “The Hobbit,” and the first to be released in theaters on the Internet.
It earned more than $2 billion worldwide.
A new film from “The Walking Dead” director J.J. Abrams, which is scheduled to begin shooting in late March or early April, is scheduled for an August release.
The director is making a return this year to “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and his new film “The Martian” will open this summer.
The first movie with Grunstone was the 2006 hit “Cars.”
